Chrysler Town & Country Recall

Although cars have to pass certain standards of quality in order to be released
into the market, there are times when defects are not realized until the cars
have been put to actual use. In these instances, recalls have to be made especially
when a massive number of cars are affected and injuries or accidents may result
because of these defects. In a Town & Country case, 1987 and 1993 models were
recalled because a light duty passenger minivans were released without a remote.
Though it was not a safety recall and that there have been no determination that
a safety defect exists with the minivan latches, Chrysler is conducting a service
campaign to replace a lift-gate latch assembly of the affected minivans because
when a collision happens, the rear lift-gate latch could open and the occupants
can be ejected resulting in significantly increased risk of injury or death. In
order to prevent that defect, a corrective measure of replacing the lift- gate
latch with a new stronger latch assembly without charge is being done by Chrysler
dealers since September 1995.
Another instance of a Town & Country recall is when 1991-1993 models have
a left hand windshield wiper pivot drive arm that was not mechanically staked
to the pivot shaft, and could allow the drive arm to disengage from the shaft
and cause a loss of wiper function. Again the Chrysler dealers have to recall
those cars and replace the left hand side windshield wiper pivot assembly. Owners
were notified on August 1999.
